Website Design & Digital Support for Small Businesses

Thoughtful websites, ongoing management, and creative support — without you having to figure out all the technical pieces yourself.

How Freebird Design Came to Be

If you’ve been following my work for a while, you know my business has evolved over the years.

What started primarily in photography gradually grew into something much broader.

I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design with a focus on web and print design, and over the years clients began coming to me for more than photography. They needed websites, branding, marketing materials and—maybe most importantly—someone who could help them figure out how all of those pieces should work together.

Freebird Design grew naturally from that work.

Today, it has evolved into Freebird by Dena, where I help small businesses build and maintain a professional online presence without having to figure out all of the technical pieces themselves.

Behind the Scenes

Photography was at the center of my business for many years, but design was always right alongside it. Behind the scenes, I’ve helped businesses:

  • Build and update websites
  • Create print and marketing materials
  • Improve the way their businesses look online
  • Create consistency across websites and social media
  • Work through the technical pieces that can quickly become overwhelming

Over time, I realized many small business owners didn’t simply need someone to build them a website. They needed ongoing support.

They wanted someone they could contact when something needed to be changed, when technology wasn’t cooperating, when they wanted to advertise their business or when they simply didn’t know what the next step should be.

That’s become a big part of what I do.

What Freebird by Dena Offers

Practical digital and creative support for small businesses

01

Website Design & Builds

Custom WordPress websites designed to be clear, professional and easy for customers to navigate. The goal isn’t just to make something pretty — your website should actually help people understand what you offer and make it easy to take the next step.

02

Website Management & Ongoing Support

A website isn’t really “finished” the day it launches. Businesses change, information changes, technology changes. I provide ongoing updates, maintenance and support so you don’t have to become a web designer just to keep your site current.

03

Social Media & Digital Marketing Support

For businesses that need additional help online, I also offer select social media management and digital advertising support — so your website, social presence and advertising work together instead of feeling like separate pieces.

04

Professional Headshots & Business Photography

Photography is still an important part of what I do, especially when it helps a business present itself professionally online. Original imagery that actually represents your business — instead of relying entirely on stock photos.

05

Graphic & Print Design

My graphic design background also allows me to help with select print and marketing projects when they complement the larger project we’re working on.

Who I Work With

Small businesses across South Dakota

Much of my work is with small businesses in South Dakota, including businesses in and around Tyndall, Yankton and the surrounding communities.

I especially enjoy working with business owners who:

  • Want a professional website but don’t want to build it themselves
  • Need someone they can contact after the website launches
  • Feel overwhelmed by the technical side of running a business online
  • Want their website, social media and visual presence to feel connected
  • Prefer working directly with a real person instead of a large agency

Wherever you’re starting from

Some clients come to me needing an entirely new website. Others already have a website but need someone to take care of it. And sometimes a project starts with one small problem and grows from there.

Where Photography Fits Today

Photography will always be part of my story

After years of photographing families, newborns and businesses, I have a pretty unique perspective when I’m designing a website because I’m thinking about both the design and the imagery that needs to live inside it.

Freebird Photography continues to exist for the photography work I still take on, while Freebird by Dena gives me room to bring together the website, design, marketing and digital-support side of my business.

They aren’t really unrelated businesses. They’re different parts of the same creative background I’ve built over the years.
