Newborn Style Tips & Clothing Guide
Newborn Session Tips
Please try to feed your newborn just before you come to the session so they have a full belly upon arrival. If you are driving a longer distance be prepared to feed mid session or upon arrival.
You can skip the onsie and put easy off PJ’s on baby – as we will be undressing them when they arrive. It will be hot in the studio so bring something comfortable for yourself to wear after the family portion is finished.
Please bring a pacifier even if your newborn doesn’t take it much – it’s nice to use for a minute here and there for a quick soothing – and makes the session much smoother! Please bring entertainment for siblings – or if you are local and are able, have them leave with a family member after the family portion is done (they get pretty bored in the studio). They are also welcome to stay and hang out, I do have a room with a few toys for them to explore.
Tones/Colors
In general, you will want to wear solid colors. Distracting patterns draw our attention away from what really matters. I love Whites, creams, lace, neutrals, grays, blacks, etc. If you aren’t a fan of colorless – Warm earthy tones are really nice with newborns. Think fall colors – burnt orange, brown, dark deep greens, etc. Try to stay within the same tones and can add neutrals. It’s really nice to keep it simple so the little tiny baby doesn’t get lost.
Lastly, please don’t stress about anything, everything will work out wonderfully. If you are running a little bit late – it’s okay – I know it can be hard getting out the door with a brand new baby at home!
Fingernail Polish
Make sure everyone who is wearing nail polish either has a nice muted color or none. Chipped/worn nail polish will show in the images and it’s very difficult to photoshop.
Newborn Outfit
You do not need to bring any clothes for the baby. I have a studio full of specially made newborn outfits and wraps.
Shoes
You do not need to stress about shoes – the only feet in the pictures will be the newborn and any toddler siblings.
Lay it All Out
You are nearly done. Once you’ve chosen outfits it can be helpful to lay out all the pieces together to ensure that the outfits coordinate nicely. Feel free to send me a snapshot if you need some assistance with anything at all. Inside the Newborn Design Questionnaire in the Portal, you’ll see a spot where you can upload your outfits for me to see if you’d like to do that!
